Eyewear Trends Winter 2019
While winter to some people means practically hibernating inside the house until it warms up again, there’s still plenty to get excited about, especially with Christmas around the corner. Whether you are looking for the latest trends to keep you stylish at the office do, turn heads at Christmas parties or just to add an extra sparkle to your layered winter outfits, we have collected the strongest five trends that appeared on the autumn catwalks and are now filtering through into eyewear collections:
Whether teamed with a round, square or hexagonal shaped frame, acetate or metal, the message on the autumn runways was clear: Bigger is better. The runways mostly featured this trend in the form of dark lensed sunglasses, but it is becoming more popular in prescription eyewear too. If you want a strong style statement to make you feel like a celebrity, this is it.
We all know and love the traditional glasses shapes that have been around since forever, but for those who have been longing to see something different, now’s your time. With designers now experimenting with triangular, hexagonal and other polygonal shapes, there are plenty of ultra-modern yet quirky styles to give you an edge in the style stakes.
Connected Shield Lenses
The connected shield lenses look is where both lenses and the bridge of the glasses are formed out of one piece, ski and swim goggles are the ultimate examples. While these glasses were originally practical pieces of health and safety kit in outdoors activities, the shape has been transferred to this autumn’s catwalks as a bold, bright look with a sporty edge. We can see this style becoming particularly popular in next summer’s sunglasses, but look out for smaller and more refined versions of these lenses paired with aviator frames on prescription glasses.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, so why not have them on your glasses too? Okay, so unless you are seriously wealthy, they probably won’t be actual diamonds, but who doesn’t want the opportunity to have some extra sparkle around your face? Especially in time for the Christmas parties when you need to stand out against the tinsel, glitter and sequins.
If big statements are not your style, you can achieve a subtle and understated finish with just a small amount of elegant diamante detailing on some classic frames.
Aviators are still definitely having their moment, although the style classic has never actually gone away for good reason. Oversize them or even go for a connected shield lens with them to really stand out or keep them pared down with minimal metal frames for a timeless and refined appearance. Sleek metal frames in pale gold colours and rose golds are particularly pretty and very popular this season.
